Candidate’s Statement

I am a lifelong resident of St. Landry Parish and I am committed to my sincere desire to serve the people who call this parish – home.

As your neighbor, as a wife and mother, and as a small business owner, I understand the great responsibility and commitment that elected officials in this parish should possess. As candidates, we need to maintain this commitment, not just when running a political campaign, but most importantly, to bring this commitment to work, as your next Parish Assessor, every single day.

Throughout my employment at the Sheriff’s Office, I have worked with other government agencies including the Assessor’s Office. In my work with the Assessor’s Office, I possess an in depth understanding of property assessments and values. Because of my overall work experiences, I possess the experience and knowledge to make a difference by continuing the improvement of the Assessor’s Office and helping the wonderful citizens of this parish.

I know the demands and higher standard rightfully expected of Public Servants. I am married to Steven McGovern who has himself been a dedicate public servant for 25 years. Our greatest accomplishment ever is to be the proud parents of our son Christian, who is eighteen years old. I am the daughter of John and Shirley Zeringue of Opelousas, Louisiana.

I am a woman regarded as having a belief in the fair and equal treatment of all people. I am regarded as a woman of honesty, hard work and integrity. With these qualities and my professional experience, I ask for your confidence and your vote to move the Assessor’s Office in the beset direction – a direction that enhances it with efficiency and the ability to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world.
